Valentine’s Day Cake Pops

A great way to celebrate valentine’s day with your family and friends is by making cake pops.  You can surprise others, and express your love with this edible piece of art.

Ingredients

1 pack of cake mix (follow the instructions on the box for backing), or buy a pound cake from the store.
½ cup vanilla frosting
1 cup white chocolate candy melt
2 tablespoons oil
12 lollipop sticks
Red sprinkles

Special Equipment

Double boiler
Heart shaped ice cube tray
1 styrofoam block or a glass filled with the leftover cake
Cooking Directions

1. Bake the cake and let it cool. Place ½ of a cake in a large bowl, and crumble it well. Add the frosting one tablespoon at a time and mix well until you can mold it into a ball.

2. Take the heart shaped ice cube tray and fill it with the mixture.  Keep it in the refrigerator for three hours.

3. Get a baking sheet ready to put the cake pops in.

4. After three hours, remove the cake hearts from the ice cube tray and put it on the baking sheet.

5. Place the double boiler on the stove top. Add water to the bottom pan, and boil the water over a medium flame.  Then add the candy melt inside the top bowl. When the chocolate is half melted, add two table spoon oil.  Stir and thoroughly melt the candy.
6. Get a styrofoam block ready to stick the cake pops in, or prepare a  glass filled with the leftover cake.

7. Dip one end of the lollipop stick into the candy melt, and insert it into the bottom of the cake hearts. Place them on the baking sheet and wait for few minutes to allow lollypop sticks to stick to the cake.  If the candy melts get hard, reheat it in the double boiler.

8.  Dip each cake pop into the candy melt.  Use a spoon to cover any empty spots with the melted candy. When the cake pop is all covered in candy melt, twirl the cake pop until all the candy dripping stops.

9. Hold the cake pop over a plate or a baking sheet, and dust it with sprinkles. Hold the cake upright. If the candy is still dripping, press the dripping candy on to the lollipop stick.  Finally, stick the finished lollipop stick into the cake filled cup or on to a styrofoam block. Wait for the candy melt to harden, and enjoy the cake pops.
